New Wave Music and Dance Academy presents Winter Music and Dance Fest 2019, Season 1 - the ultimate battle of music and dance!

Contestants from Siliguri, Darjeeling, Mirik, Kalimpong, Gangtok, and Jaigaon showcased their talents in auditions held on January 6th, 13th, and 20th at Planet Mall, Siliguri.

Our star-studded judging panel included :
- Guest Artists : Sir Nishaant Singh, Sir Dishari Chokroborti
- Esteemed Judges : Maa Barnalai Basu, Sir Mahesh Sewa, Sir Ezaz Ali & Sir Abhishek Sikdel.

And the winners were :
- Solo Singing : Miss Shruti Biswakarma from Darjeeling
- Battle of the Bands : The Pumpkin Band from Darjeeling
- GROUP Dance : KD B2D Kurseong
- Solo Dance : Ashmita Pradhan

Guest Artists :

Nishaant Singh,

A renowned Pakhawaj player of the Lala Keval Kishan Gharana-Bengal Parampara, is a torchbearer for his generation. As a disciple of Pandit Chanchal Kumar Bhattacharya and son of Padmashri Kaajee Singh, Nishaant hails from a distinguished musical lineage spanning four generations. A Fulbright Fellow in the USA, Nishaant is the only Pakhawaj player to have received this prestigious honor. He now runs his own institute with branches in Sikkim and Kalimpong. Additionally, he is a Shatatantri Veena exponent ,Principal of Baba Allauddin Memorial Music College (Delhi), International awardee, composer, and researcher.

 

Pandit Dishari Chakraborti,

A Renowned Shatatantri Veena Exponent & Principal of Baba Allauddin Memorial Music College (Delhi). International Awardee, Composer, and Researcher. A maestro who continues to inspire with his musical expertise and contributions.

Esteemed Judges :

Esteemed Guruma Barnali Basu

is a legendary figure in Eastern classical music, renowned for nurturing numerous celebrated voices. With her soulful renditions and unique teaching techniques, she has inspired many on their musical journey. Residing in Siliguri, Guruma Barnali Basu is a soft-spoken and humble personality who has collaborated with various reality shows, singing competitions, and musical programs as a respected judge. Her contributions to music education have left an indelible mark, and she continues to inspire aspiring musicians.

 

Sir Mahesh Sewa

is indeed a talented singer from the Darjeeling hills, renowned for his soulful voice and memorable songs like "Baba ko topi" from albums such as "Bhakkano". His music has touched many hearts, and his contributions to Nepali music are truly commendable. He's a celebrated artist in the Nepali music scene!

Sir Ezaz Ali

is a renowned arranger and recordist from Darjeeling, known for his exceptional musical senses and creativity. His outstanding work in the Nepali music industry has garnered international recognition, with many of his arrangements becoming huge hits. His contributions have significantly enriched the Darjeeling music scene, earning him a celebrated reputation among music enthusiasts.

 

Sir, Abhishek Sikdel Chettri,

owner of Underwire Studio in Gangtok, Sikkim, is a sound engineer with over 7 years of experience. He's a graduate of SAE Oxford's Sound Engineering program in Littlemore, England. Abhishek will be sharing his expertise in a one-day professional sound recording, mixing, and mastering workshop.
